“This term we have been journeying through the season of Lent as we built up to Easter. Beginning with an exploration about what Lent is we discovered it is the 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter Sunday (excluding Sundays). We began with a wonderful Ash Wednesday service administered by the wonderful Chapel Committee followed by a challenge to give something up (TikTok, Netflix, Chocolate), or to take something up (prayer, giving to a charity, daily compliments).
We then explore the Church of England Lenten theme “live lent: Embracing Justice”. This challenged us to explore God’s view of justice. Right relationship with God, right relationship with self and right relationship with others. We then embarked on 10 challenges to bring justice to our communities.
On Wednesday we explored the Easter story through an escape room. The idea of an escape room is that you use codes, and cyphers to solve problems in order to receive more cyphers and solve more problems until you have cracked the four digit code and are able to escape. In our case we explored 4 problems centering on the Easter Story.
- WHY DID A DISCIPLE BETRAY JESUS?
- HOW DID THE WORLD’S MOST INNOCENT MAN GET A DEATH SENTENCE?
- WHAT DID JESUS HAVE TO SAY TO US?
- DID MIRACLES REALLY HAPPEN, ONE AFTER ANOTHER?
Students used clues and information from Scripture (Luke 22: arrest and trial of Jesus, John 19: the crucifixion of Jesus , John 20: story of the resurrection, John 11:25-26, 1 Corinthians 15:21: meaning of the resurrection) to solve the problems. After 25 minutes or hard work Te Uru 2 cracked the code to open a box full of Easter eggs.
And may we rejoice together that God is no longer far off but has come near to us through the life, death and resurrection of his Son Jesus! Together let us pray Christ is risen! He is risen indeed, Alleluia!”.
Have an excellent Easter Break and may God keep you safe and well!”
