History

Craighead Diocesan School was established in 1911 by the daughters of Professor Shand of Otago University and was privately run until 1926.

In 1926, Craighead became affiliated to the Anglican Church and daily worship in the Chapel is an important part of Craighead life since that time. Miss Salmond, a previous Headmistress, introduced the House system in 1927. The School still has the same Maori names for its Houses, which come from the four points of a compass.
