Congratulations to the Craighead rowers who achieved fantastic results at the season’s premiere event, the Maadi Cup. The squad of senior rowers topped off what has been a brilliant season, winning one silver and three bronze medals at the National event.
The medals came from Nadia Van Den Bosch (U16 Single, Bronze), Elise Talbot (U18 Single, Bronze), Elsie and Paige Butler-Baird (U17 Double, Silver), and Zoe Gordon and Chanel Gordon (Novice Double, Bronze).
Elsie and Paige caught the eye of selectors and both were chosen to trial for the girls’ under-18 South Island squad to row against the North Island under-18s.
Maadi is extremely competitive and is the largest secondary school event in the Southern Hemisphere. This year, almost 100 schools were represented. Rowers went through several rounds of racing to make the finals.
Craighead made 10 A finals (only the top eight in the country make an A final), and four B finals (next top eight in New Zealand). Every girl in the Craighead Maadi squad qualified for at least one A or B final.
Well done girls!
