Performing Arts

All students in Y 7-10 have one class period per week of Drama which introduces them to stagecraft and drama skills. In the senior school Drama becomes an option subject with 4 periods per week.

As well as this some extra curricular Drama activities run in the school.

Stage Challenge:

From the work done in class, all Year 7 to 10 students prepare a class entry in a school Stage Challenge competition in Term IV. This is modelled on the national Smokefree Stage Challenge Contest, the competition is held in the Auditorium and parents are invited.

Drama Club:

This is lunch time group open to all students who have an interest in the dramatic arts. It gives the opportunity for students to develop stage, directing and backstage skills. Most years this group enters the regional Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival in Term I. This competition is for short excerpts of Shakespeare prepared and directed by students. From this the best locally are sent forward to the national final in Wellington. Craighead has had groups in the finals regularly in recent years and a Year 13 student several years ago was selected to travel to England to train and perform at Stratford on Avon as a result of this competition.

Theatre Sports:

This is new group set up to develop these skills. More information will be available about their activities early next year.

School Productions:

Major school wide productions do not occur every year but are significant school wide events when they do. Centennial Year, 2011, is likely to be the year of the next school production. More information on this will be provided closer to the time.
