Pastoral care & Wellbeing

AT CRAIGHEAD, PASTORAL CARE SITS AT THE HEART OF WHO WE ARE...

Guided by our Special Character and grounded in our school values of Respect, Integrity, Service and Personal Excellence, we are committed to nurturing the whole girl.

Our pastoral structure is intentionally designed to ensure every girl is known, supported, and connected. Each student belongs to a whānau class led by a dedicated whānau teacher who provides daily care, guidance, and a strong sense of belonging. Alongside this, each year group is supported by a Dean who oversees student wellbeing, academic progress, and pastoral needs, working closely with families and staff to ensure continuity of care.

Our approach recognises that wellbeing is holistic. Students are supported as whole people — academically, socially, emotionally, spiritually, and physically — through a wraparound network that includes whānau teachers, Deans, Senior Leadership, Chaplain, Guidance Counsellor, SENCo, Heads of Department, and Boarding House staff. This collective commitment ensures every girl feels safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.

We value student leadership as a powerful way to nurture connection and empathy. Opportunities such as big sister/little sister relationships, peer support roles, and leadership pathways encourage girls to look out for one another, build confidence, and contribute positively to our school culture.

At Craighead, we are more than a school – We Are Craighead.

Ka whangaia, ka tupu, ka puawai | That which is nurtured will grow and blossom
